Case Details
The process involves placing the workpiece into a sealed container, applying isotropic pressure to the workpiece while simultaneously subjecting it to high temperatures. Under the combined effects of high temperature and high pressure, the workpiece undergoes sintering and densification. Hot isostatic pressing is an indispensable technique for the production of high-performance materials and the development of new materials. Hot isostatic pressing can be used directly for powder compaction: powdered material is loaded into a containment vessel—similar in function to a mold—with the vessel made of metal or ceramic (such as low‑carbon steel, Ni, Mo, or glass). Nitrogen or argon is then used as the pressurizing medium, allowing the powder to be heated and pressed to achieve sintering and shaping through powder metallurgy. Alternatively, castings—including aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, and high‑temperature alloys—exhibiting shrinkage porosity and cavities can undergo thermal densification treatment. After hot isostatic pressing, these castings can achieve 100% density, significantly enhancing their overall mechanical properties.
