Its boiling point is −153.35°C, and the concentration of krypton in the atmosphere is extremely low—present in trace amounts, at approximately 1.14 × 10⁻⁶ by volume. Krypton is neither combustible nor does it support combustion. It has the ability to absorb X‑rays. The gas has a relative density of 3.736 at −152.9°C, while its liquid phase has a relative density of 2.155. The melting point is −156.6°C, and the boiling point is (−152.3 ± 1.0)°C. The critical temperature is −63.81°C, and the critical pressure is 55 × 10⁵ Pa. Krypton exhibits properties such as high density, low thermal conductivity, and high transmittance. Krypton is widely used in the electronics industry and in the production of electric light sources, as well as in gas lasers and plasma applications. Light bulbs filled with pure krypton offer several advantages over argon‑filled bulbs of the same power rating: higher luminous efficacy, smaller size, longer lifespan, and greater energy efficiency. It is extensively employed in the manufacture of miner’s lamps; due to its exceptionally high transmittance, krypton can also be used to produce illumination lights for off‑road vehicles during nighttime operations and runway marker lights for aircraft. In the medical and healthcare fields, krypton is utilized to measure cerebral blood flow. Its isotopes serve as tracer agents. Radioactive krypton can be used for leak detection in sealed containers and for continuous measurement of material thickness; it can even be fashioned into atomic lamps that require no external power source. Furthermore, Kr‑86 is employed for international calibration of length standards, while Kr‑85 is used in “kryptonation” treatments for materials.
